Description

DiskSizes 1.6 shows status information about your computer's drives. This information includes cluster size, free space and total size. Files are stored in an integral number of clusters (or allocation units). Disk and file sizes may be based on powers of 1000 or 1024. When 1000 is selected, a megabyte is a million bytes, a gigabyte is a billion bytes and a terabyte is a trillion bytes. This information may be useful when you are storing many small files. Can measure a folder's disk use and display the number of folders, number of files, sum of the file sizes and total disk use. The last one may be relative to the cluster size on any of your computer's drives. It may also be relative to a selected size or all of the listed sizes. In the last case, this information may be exported to a text file. This information may be useful when you are copying a folder. DiskSizes is a shareware program, requires Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 with I.E. 3.0 or higher, and does not contain any adware or spyware. (Trial period: 15 days-of-use. Initial Fee: $5, Upgrade Fee: $0. Released on 22-May-2011.)

Features and Benefits

# Feature Benefit
1 Shows disk cluster sizes. This is a measure of disk-use efficiency. (Cluster size is the amount of disk space a 1-byte file uses on a specified disk. Files are stored in an integral number of clusters.)
2 Shows free space. Shows available space for storing files.
3 Shows total sizes. Having this information on a single screen may be helpful for comparing disks.
4 Sort-by-column buttons Rearranging the rows may simplify comparisons.
5 Number options You may prefer a different thousands separator or number of decimal places.
6 Size Definition Hard-disk and file sizes may be based on powers of 1000 or 1024. Hard-disk manufacturers tend to prefer using 1000. This option allows for comparing with stated disk sizes.
7 Recall column widths Allows for retaining widths that better fit your computer screen.
8 Recall window position You may prefer that DiskSizes' window always opens in the same place on your computer screen.
9 Tip of the day Provides information about using this program.
10 Measure screen Calculates accurate disk-use relative to a reference disk or size. (A reference disk is a target disk for copying a folder. A reference size is a standard cluster size. You may select all of the listed sizes.)
11 Disk use table Shows disk-use for a variety of cluster sizes.
12 Export button Allows saving disk-use information into a text file.
